Harrison Ford has been injured after the plane he was in crash landed onto a golf course in Los Angeles.

The 72-year-old actor is believed to have been flying solo in what appears to be a World War Two training aircraft when it crashed into Penmar golf course in Venice area.

He suffered multiple gashes to his head and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, TMZ said.

Witnesses were reported by local media as saying Ford was helped out of the plane by bystanders and that he could use his legs.

Fire officials would not confirm the pilot’s identity, but an official familiar with the crash confirmed Ford was flying the aircraft.

At a news conference, the LA Fire Department said the pilot “suffered some moderate trauma, was breathing, conscious and alert” and was in a “fair to moderate” condition.

An earlier tweet from the fire department had described “the patient” as being in a “critical condition”.

LA Police Department spokeswoman Officer Nuria Vanegas said: “The incident was reported at 2:25pm, it was mechanical failure of plane, that’s what caused the accident.”

Ford was the only person aboard, and nobody on the ground was hurt.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in a tweet that it would be investigating the crash.

The golf course is near Santa Monica Municipal Airport but it is not clear whether the plane had taken off or was trying to land.

Ford, best known for his roles in the blockbuster films Star Wars and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, is a longtime aviation enthusiast.
